Wall of Honor Recipients



Morris P. Sevada, Jr. – Class of 1955, Dedicated Community Service, Inducted 2005

Morris P. Sevada, Jr., was born on October 10, 1937 in Ft. Wingate, New Mexico on the Navajo Indian Reservation. In 1947, he moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Parker, Arizona, and relocated on the Colorado River Indian Reservation as part of the Indian Relocation Act. Thereafter, he was adopted as a member of the Colorado River Indian Tribes. Morris graduated from Le Pera Elementary School in 1951 and from Parker High School in 1955. While attending Parker High School, he participated in football, basketball, and baseball and was a member of the Letterman’s Club. Morris enlisted in the United States Navy in June of 1955, and served in the Seabees where he performed Power Lineman work and was honorably discharged in 1957. His service in the Seabees eventually led to his employment with the United State Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Power Department in November of 1957. Morris retired in October of 1995, after serving 38 years, the final 20 years as a Foreman II Lineman Electric. In his final 15 years, he also served as the Region’s PCB and Hazardous Waste Coordinator. Morris was very involved in youth sports beginning with the Town of Parker Youth Baseball League program, in which he coached many years in the boys’ major and senior divisions where his teams won several championships in each division. After coaching, he served several years as League President. In addition, Morris coached youth basketball in the Colorado River Indian Tribes Recreation League and served three years as the Defensive Coordinator for the Wallace Colts’ Tackle Football program under Head Coach Reuben Castillo. Morris officiated basketball of all levels for 25 years, beginning with KYOR-AM and thereafter with KMDX-FM, KZUL-AM, KLPZ-AM, and 15 years with STTV. Morris was known as “Junor Moose,” voice of the Parker Broncs and teamed for 28 years with his ‘trusty color commentator and stats man’ Hurley “The Train” Fisher. Morris’ other local broadcasting included Parker High basketball, power boat racing, and SCORE 400 off-road racing. The Parker Area Chamber of Commerce honored Morris with two awards: The Chambers’ 1975 George Award for “outstanding community service and achievement” and, in 1995, a special recognition award for “unselfish dedication to the Parker area,” for his service as “Junor Moose, Voice of the Parker Broncs.”

D. L. Wilson – Class of 1968, Professional Career at APS & Community Service Volunteer, Inducted 2005

D. L. Wilson was born in Montebello, CA, and graduated from Parker High School in 1968. D. L. attended the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA, from 1968 to 1970 and again in 1972. In 1980, he graduated from the University of Redlands in Blythe, CA, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management. D. L. enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1972 as a Vietnam Veteran. He is married to Kelly and has one daughter, Hillary. D. L. began his career with Arizona Public Service (APS) in 1975 as a meter reader, moving up the ladder to Customer Service Representative, Customer Service and Bill Inquiry Supervisor, and ultimately to the position, which he holds now, Parker Area Supervisor. D. L. has acted in this supervisory capacity since 1990. In 1995, he was awarded the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce George Award for Community Service. D. L. has served on many Parker and Yuma area Boards and Committees, as a Councilmember on the Parker Town Council since 2001, was elected and has served as Mayor of the Town of Parker since 2003. He is involved with professional activities as well, which include membership in the Arizona Association for Economic Development. D. L.’s hobbies include golf, reading, and wine tasting.

Benjamin Simms, Class of 1950, Professional Career in Ministry & Service To Country, Inducted 2005

Benjamin Simms was born a Mojave Indian in Parker, Arizona, on July 23, 1932. Mr. Simms graduated from Parker High School in 1950. Ben is a decorated Korean War Veteran serving with the Airborne Rangers, 187th Airborne R.C. and 7th Division during 1950 to 1953. Ben was awarded a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf (two awards), a Bronze Star medal with “V” device, an Army of Occupation medal with a Japan clasp, a Korean service medal with three bronze battle stars, a National Defense service medal, a United Nations service medal, a U.S. Presidential Unit citation, a Republic of Korea Presidential unit citation (two awards), and a Combat Infantry Badge, a Parachutist badge, and Army Airborne Ranger Tab. Ben is a retired minister with 25 years in pastoral ministry and five years as a registered Evangelist for 30 years of service for the Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, Missouri. Reverend Simms is a National Chaplain with the Association of Airborne Ranger Companies of the Korea War. His pastoral experience has been in Los Angeles, CA; Albuquerque, NM; Parker, AZ; and Phoenix, AZ. Reverend Simms is married to Daisy Mae and has three children. He earned an Associate of Arts degree in 1969 from N.I.B.C. in Albuquerque, NM, in Biblical Studies and Organizational Management. His hobbies include jogging, and viewing sporting events on TV and in person.
