Thanx! to Pat Lynch we have some more old photos.  The first is a one-room class at Parker Dam Elementary School (6th, 7th, 8th grades all together).  L to R Donald Graham 6th, Dean ? 8th, Harvey Hilton 7th, Steve King 7th, Jim Ackerson 7th, Roger Plog 7th, Monty (Joe) Pipins 8th, Butch Pipins 8th, and the one lucky girl Madaline Freeman 6th.  All lived at Parker Dam or Met.

Pat 1956.  I was thinking this might be good for a class action lawsuit.  I believe it was call Slave Day.  A school sponsored function.  Take a freshman and humiliate them.  We had to wear a dress, wear an onion for a necklace, flour your hair, wear a women's show and a shoe box.  I can't remember what the sign said.  Somthing about being a lowly Freshman.  Maybe Dinker remembers?

Mike Waylonis 1955?  and Leslie Horne 1959

Pat, Tony, Rodney.  Graduation Night party (garage at Parker Dam) Rodney Amador, Bill North, Buzzy Laffoon, Sandy Cox, Dick Leivas.

Bill, Tony, Pat, Rod, Harry, Dick and my brother, Mike.  Graduation night had a party at Parker Dam house.  (no alcohol)  Girlfriends were taken home around midnight.  Parents collected all car keys.  All were welcome, but if you came you stayed.  Dad started keg, Mom and Grandmother cooked all night.  Next morning Mom drove the kids to school who had to be there (Juniors).  We had no car wrecks and nobody got killed.  Today, my parents would have gone to jail!

We've sent out over 1,000 mailers, but if you know of someone who hasn't received the information and doesn't have a computer, let us know by emailing the Webmaster and we'll get a letter right out to them.  We've created a list of those that have been returned at NATA (Not At This Address).  Email the Webmaster if you have an address for anyone on the list.

Click on Homecoming 2005 on the left and get all of the latest details.

Kristen (Hill) Byers '95 introduced us to Nadia Chavez '95 who was kind enough to loan us her 1995 La Reata.  Trouble is I don't find the words "La Reata" on the cover! We've scanned in the La Reata for 1995 and you can find it under Old Yearbooks.  The Class of 1995 will be celebrating their TENTH anniversary of their graduation.  We also have some information on them at 1995 Missing Roster.

Members of the Reunion Committee got together recently for lunch in Parker and before that Lonnie took some pictures of the River's Edge Cantina at the Bluewater Resort.  The first is a picture from the Cantina looking at the Casino.

History of Parker High School

The history of the high school began in 1920 when the new grammar school building was completed and the ninth grade was included in its enrollment. This was Parker's first step toward a high school. By 1926 the town population had increased considerably and the high school students who previously went away to school returned, so the other high school grades were added.

In 1935 a new high school building was finished, but was struck by lightning during a severe electrical storm and burned before it was ever used. Insurance made it possible for the building to be reconstructed and it was open for school in September
of 1936. The high school board at this time consisted of Frank Ewing, Floy Beaver, Arnold Robinson, Mrs. E.V. Haydis, and Mable Curtiss. Loren Curtiss was the first high school principal, a position he held until 1943.

The high school band was organized during the school year of 1942-43. It was composed of 20 members.

Competitive sports were started in the late 1930's. They then consisted of football, basketball and track. Baseball was added in 1940, but discontinued until 1950.

Lee Thompson was principal in 1946 and Miss Woodford was one of the four teachers. Sixty students were then enrolled.

In 1947, a bus route was started from Parker Dam and in 1948 a bus brought the students from Wenden, Salome, Quartzsite, Vicksburg and Bouse. Before then, these student either furnished their own transportation or lived in town.

In 1951-52 the field house was built and two additional wings were added to the old building. These Wings included a principal's office, general office, library, science lab, typing and commerce rooms and two general class rooms. The board members at this time were Frank Maddox, Esther Beaver, E.V. Haydis, Elva Bolieu and Arthur Graham. Paul Waterman was principal.

In 1954-55 the Fuqua Memorial Gymnasium was completed along with a fully equipped home economics department and an auto shop. The Salome Branch of the Northern Yuma County Union High School was finished the same year. The board members were Granville Fuqua, Troy Blanton, Mrs. E.V. Haydis, Dorothy Anderson and Frank Maddox.

The school year of 1955-56 there were 200 students enrolled and Emmett Sims was principal. In Salome there were 50 students enrolled and Everett King was principal.

Everyone can and should be proud of the Northern Yuma County Union High School for it's advancement thus far. It is sincerely wished by all that it will continue to progress in the years to come.
