THE  BEST  Homecoming  EVER!

That's what we keep hearing.  Truth be told, there really was something about this year's event that was different.  Everyone says they had the best time they've ever had!  The Reunion Committee is pleased as punch that everything went off so well.  It was a group effort by a whole team of talented individuals, each doing their best.  Our heartfelt thanx! go out to all who helped make this one such a success.

When it was over we didn't do too much analyzin'.  We did decide that a large part of the success was attributed to the fact that we didn't over-organize.  We'll do some things different next time, like change sign in at the Alumni Tea to make it easier to do.  But other than that and a few tweaks here and there...we decided what our fellow Alumni really liked was that they could come to an event and then create their own fun...talk with this group awhile, mosey over and 'play' with their other friends...it made each get together truly enjoyable for all.

The Homecoming events began with an invitation to Alumni to attend the Chamber Mixer held at the Joshua Street Mall.  Click on the photo to see a photogallery of candids from that evening.  Notice the beautiful Arizona Sunset!

Friday morning was a whole separate memory.  First, I got up and took some pictures from the balcony in my room at the Bluewater Casino as the sun was rising.  Then, for those of you who have never been there, I took some inside pictures of the water feature.  It is a wonderful place for kids and adults with water slides, swimming pools, a sauna. As everyone else starting rising we met at the Check In Desk and headed out for Badenoch's for breakfast.  Click on the photo below for a photogallery of the early morning.

Here's a photo of Coach Simmons and Helen Williams at the Alumni Tea.  Coach has that certain jaunt to his head, a satisfied smile, and to me he just looks like there isn't another place on earth he'd rather be at this time...and Helen looks like she's standing next to one of her heroes!  They're shoulder to shoulder...dear friends from days gone by...happy...and glad to be 'home' once again!  That's the way most of us felt that day...and that feeling is going to last a loooong time.  Click on the photo for a photogallery of the event.

The Pep Rally on Friday morning was just awesome for me.  I don't get to be around that many young people with that much spirit and excitement going on very often.  I think I'll make this a permanent fixture of my Homecoming agenda.  Click on the Cheerleaders below to go to the photogallery.

I have no pictures yet of the Game or the Bon Fire. I hope someone will send me some.

One of the best events was the Dinner/Dance on Saturday night.  That's where Carolyn Barnes and I danced the Stroll and I twisted my knee!  Here are some photos.

Below are pictures I took at the BBQ at La Paz County Park.  The day was just beautiful, just a touch warm, but nice.  Click on the picture to view the photogallery.

Jan Scofield '61 recently made a list of things he wanted to do before he died.  One was to ski one more time on the River.  I don't know whether I told you the story of having called Jan's number in San Antonio several times a year for TEN YEARS before he finally answered the phone one day.  I hadn't seen him in 35+ years and he hadn't skied on the River since we all left and went our separate ways in the early 60's.  So, I promised him that if he came to the Reunion I would find someone to give him a ski ride.  Conkie's son, Dale, was kind enough to take time out of his Sunday morning and fulfill the fondest desire of Jan's heart.  Click on the photo to see way too many pictures of this event.

Sunday morning at Badenoch's was fun as always.  Click on the photo to see who was there.

More Badenoch's pictures.
